Double bass lessons.

Double bass: lessons at Music Campus München

The double bass is the largest string instrument and the foundation of the orchestra. In jazz, too, it is one of the most important instruments. The best part: you do not have to choose a style. In double bass lessons at Music Campus München you learn both, playing with the bow and plucked pizzicato.

Lessons cover every area of the bass: melodies and accompaniment, rhythm and technique, classical, jazz, folk, pop and film music. With small rental instruments, children can start from age 6. Adults go straight to the full-size double bass.

Really deep.
No frets at all.

The double bass has no frets: exactly where your finger sits decides the note. Press a string and hold it. The bow moves by itself. The tuner shows you how close you are. Can you play the “Ode to Joy” on the A string?

Lessons in detail

How your double bass lessons work.

The first lessons

Stance and posture at the big instrument, the open strings with the bow and plucked: your tone soon carries. Then come the first left-hand fingerings and simple bass lines.

Over time

Intonation and shifting, bow strokes, walking bass and groove. Plus pieces from classical, jazz and folk, in the orchestra as well as in a band.

For kids and adults

With small rental instruments, children start from age 6. Adults love that double bass players are in demand in orchestras, jazz combos and bands alike.

Practising at home

Short, regular sessions make your fingers strong and your tone secure. Your teacher will also advise you on getting a suitable instrument for home.
