Cello lessons.

Cello: lessons at Music Campus München

The cello has a warm, deep sound that comes very close to the human voice. In cello lessons at Music Campus München you learn bowing, clean intonation and playing in the first positions step by step. Because the cello has no frets, it trains your ear right from the start.

You play the cello sitting down, and it rests comfortably against your body. Whether a Bach suite, film music or a pop song, the cello fits almost any music and sounds just as beautiful on its own as in an orchestra or ensemble. Children start on smaller instruments, adults go straight to the full-size cello.

No frets.
Just your ear.

The cello has no frets either: exactly where your finger sits decides the note. Press a string and hold it. The bow moves by itself. The tuner shows you how close you are. Can you play the “Ode to Joy” on the A string?

Lessons in detail

How your cello lessons work.

The first lessons

Posture, how to hold the bow and the open strings: a round tone comes in the very first lessons. Then the fingers of the left hand join in, and with them the first melodies.

Over time

Clean intonation, scales and shifting, bow strokes and vibrato. Plus pieces from classical, film music and pop, on your own or with others in an ensemble.

For kids and adults

Children start from around age 6 on a smaller cello that grows with them. Adults love how quickly the cello sounds warm and full.

Practising at home

Regular, short sessions bring the most progress. Your teacher shows you how to practise so that bow and left hand become secure.
